As I am writing this 4th installment of Creating Abundance, I am sitting with my mother, and the 4th Law we are talking about today is the Law of Polarity. We got a little off track with the series of blogs during my trip to France. Although this is probably the most appropriate law for me to be writing about as I sit with my mother. My mother is in hospice care in San Antonio, Tx. We don’t know how much time we have left with her, but my siblings and I are trying to make the most of it.
Before I explain more and dive into the Law of Polarity, let’s check in with the first three laws. How are you doing with change and keeping in mind the Law of Perpetual Transmutation of Energy? Have you been paying attention to how you feel as an indicator of where your thoughts are and harnessing the power of the Law of Vibration? What about the Law of Relativity? The third law focuses on how everything that exists only exists through relationship or comparison to something else. If you want a review of any of these 3 laws, click on the link and it will take you to the previous blog.
So, let’s get started with the 4th Law of Polarity. The Law of Polarity states that everything has an opposite. Napoleon Hill, “Every failure has a seed of greater success”. Babe Ruth had the record for the most home runs while at the same time he held the record for strike outs. With every failure or challenge there lies a gift for who you are becoming and what you will accomplish.
When you can really harness this law, you are unstoppable. When you can lean into the Law of Polarity, understanding and trusting that no matter how challenging or bad something may turn out or look like, there is a gift. Some people will tell you there is a lesson in everything. That when something doesn’t turn out like you wanted it to, there is something to learn, a lesson. Personally, I don’t love learning lessons and prefer to look for the gift in the situation.
This law became very important to me about 22 years ago. It was the very worst time of my life and also would turn out to be my greatest gift. I had lost a son at birth. I was absolutely devastated. I sat in my home for a week hiding and crying. I couldn’t even imagine going out ever again. Eventually, I had to venture out to go to the grocery store. It was so hard to be out in public and seeing people smile and being happy. I just wanted to hide.
Then something I will never forget happened. I was stopped at a red light waiting for it to change. I noticed a homeless man in a wheel chair begin to cross the street. He had his bag of belongings in his lap and was missing both his legs. As he pushed himself slowly across the street, I watched him. It was like everything stopped around me, and I could only see him. As he passed in front of my car, he looked right at me.
All of a sudden, I felt so much love. Everything seemed to be in slow motion as I watched him finish crossing the street. The moment he was across the street, everything sped up and got loud again. At that moment, I began to see the gift in my son Brandon’s loss.
I can honestly say that losing Brandon at birth was the worst thing that has happened to me in my life but at the same time it has been my greatest gift. He is the reason I am who I am today.
I began to really know the Law of Polarity and use it. I understood that through this extremely hard time in my life, there was a gift. It was preparing me for what would be a very important part of my future.
Two years ago, I was asked to speak on Play and run an impact group. As I dove into creating both talk and impact group, I realized that the seed of Joyful Play for me was planted right after losing Brandon. It has become a very import piece of my life’s work.
There will be times in your life that will test you, challenge you, and not turn out how you would have liked it to. It is in these moments you have a choice. To lean into the Law of Polarity and look for the gift or you can let the disappointment stop you. When you look for the gift, you will be surprised at the wonderful and surprising places it will take you.
Here are a few steps to get you started leaning into the Law of Polarity:
- Think back – Can you remember a time in your life that was challenging, disappointing, or absolutely devastating? Looking back, can you see the gift? How it may have played a part in who you have become and what you have accomplished? Start a journal and write about the gifts you are now seeing.
- Look around – What gifts have you received but not fully recognized because they are disguised in a challenge or disappointment. These gifts may be staring you right in the face presently or may be a gift from the past that is showing up now. How can you apply these gifts? Are you already applying these gifts but haven’t fully recognized it until now?
- See the gift in the present – Right now, I am sitting with my mom knowing she doesn’t have much time, and I am going to lose the person in my life who has always represented unconditional love. In this very difficult and sad moment, I see the gift. I see what she has taught me and given me. I have had the time to thank her for it all and tell her how much I love her and what she has meant to me. I see the gift in being able to spend the time with her and be with her. To serve her and give back to a wonderful mother.
When you can be in the middle of a challenge or extremely difficult situation and trust that there is a gift, it allows you to move through the experience with a little more ease and grace. When you can do this, you are more likely to be able to remain in a state of flow even through the difficult time.
Remember you are completely supported. You have this!
