I’ve talked a lot about how important it is to move to the edge of your comfort zone, for you to build a successful business. I also know that it is easier said than done. I’ve been stepping out onto the edge of my comfort zone for the last 28 years.
It is something that is definitely both exhilarating and terrifying. You can get used to sitting on the edge of your comfort zone, but it never really gets easy. The reason it never gets easy, is because it’s such an inner game thing. You’re always learning, making mistakes, experimenting and pivoting until you get it, you master it, and then you start all over again. But, that’s not the hardest thing about sitting on the edge of your comfort zone.
Your inner voice is oftentimes the hardest part of sitting on the edge.
You step out to the edge and get a little uncomfortable and your inner voice goes berserk. If you’re like most of the women I know and have worked with including myself, it sounds something like: “What are you doing???? Are you crazy? You can’t do that! Who do you think you are? What makes you think anyone is going to listen to you? What if you get it wrong? What if you are judged or rejected? What are they going to think of you? Etc., etc., etc.
This is the inner voice that needs to be calmed. Because when this voice starts up, self-doubt usually sets in. You start to doubt yourself, whether you can do it, whether you are good enough, or some form of “am I worthy”.
The core of the fear that gets the inner voice going, is usually around not being good enough or worthy enough. If you dig deep enough, it usually ends up in this vicinity.
But, here’s the thing. “YOU ARE WORTHY – YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH!”
About six years ago, I was really battling self-doubt. I had been retired from direct sales for about one year and was building my coaching business. It was a little rocky to start because of the learning curve. It was very different going from having a path to follow of defined steps and knowing what I had to do to get to the next level of income and promotion, to a complete open slate of figuring it all out.
It was really scary leaving the security of the community of direct sales, the mentors, the friends, and all of the amazing people and leaders. I was starting from scratch. I had spent a couple of years finishing my education and requirements for my coaching certification through the International Coaching Federation, and now, it was time to get clients. I had gotten a few but was hoping things would move a long a little faster.
My family and I took a trip down the Oregon Coast, and we were in Canon Beach, OR. My husband went for a walk with the kids down the beach and I chose to sit on this wood log that was facing the ocean. I was sitting there looking out on the ocean and the amazing Haystack Rock that jets out of the ocean and watching the tide come in and out. I thought to myself how perfect nature is, and then, I heard a voice say, “You can only be the perfection from which you come”. I swung around to see who was behind me and there wasn’t a soul.
“You can only be the perfection from which you come.”
As, this started to sink in, I realized how true this is. You would never hold a brand new baby in your arms and look them in the eye and say, “You are beautiful but your so unworthy”. You would never do that. But, that is what we do everyday when we doubt our own ability, worth, and perfection.
There is perfection in everything, all the mistakes, wrong turns, missed goals, and challenges, big and small we face in our lives. If you really look at what’s there, you will find a gift. The gift is the perfection in it.
It doesn’t mean that everything will go exactly like you want it to go, but it does mean that if you trust and listen, you will find the perfection in all you do.
Remind your inner voice, that when fear comes in, you will be okay. You’ve got this one. Begin to change the inner dialogue…
You are meant to be wildly successful, loved, enjoy life, play, and have a huge impact. It takes you trusting!
Trusting what you know, who you are, that you are completely supported in all you do and that…
You can only be the perfection from which you come!
