Are You Waiting Until You Feel Like It to be Successful?

Success

Waiting until you feel like it to get started on any business, project, and task is the kiss of death. You are never going to feel like doing the things that will lead you to success.

Most of what you must do to be successful lies outside of your comfort zone.

What… you may be saying, but it’s true. You have to get uncomfortable. Sometimes you have to power through or fake it for a little while. This is something few of us ever feel like doing.

How many times have you jumped out of bed in the morning, super excited about making sales calls? Okay, maybe there are some of you out there, but you are definitely the exception.

Being successful requires action.

The Pareto principle states that 80% of your efforts (results) come from 20% of causes (activities). The thing is, generally the 20% of activity that will create 80% of your results is outside of your comfort zone.

Waiting until you feel like doing the 20% of activities that lay outside your comfort zone, means you may be waiting a really long time to be successful if you don’t run out of time first.

Have you ever had that thought that you are going to get to it? It’s your year to make it happen, and then all of the sudden, it’s the end of the year and you are no further along then you were at the beginning of the year? I think we have all had those years. If you have had that kind of year, then use it as a wake-up call.

If you want things to get better, to build your business, to make more money, to create more freedom, and have better relationships, then you have to do something different. You just can’t talk about it or complain about it. It requires standing up, declaring you want something different, and making the choice to step out of your comfort zone and do something different – whether you feel like it or not.

Waiting until you feel like it can be such an awesome and alluring excuse to not show up for yourself, not to go out and get what you want, and not to be seen and heard.

But really what do you have to lose?

You are exceptional. There is only one of you. Only you can bring to the world your ideas, perspectives, your gifts, your love, and your success.

How many times have you had a great idea that you’re pretty sure would have a huge impact on your business, let alone your life only to hesitate to long? Then you find out someone else had the idea and ran with it to huge success.

I get it, self doubt is something I have struggled with my entire life. But, at some point you just have to jump, be uncomfortable and make what you want happen.

At this point you may be saying great Lauri, but how do I do that?

Here are a few tips to get you started:

  1. Make a decision. Decide what you want and commit to what it will take to get there. You may not know exactly what it’s going to take, but you do know the 1st step. Take that one, and the next will show up.
  2. If you have an idea, take action. When you have an idea, the energy to act only lasts for 5 seconds. If you hesitate and don’t take action in the first 5 seconds, then the energy to act turns into an emergency brake on it. Mel Robbins talks about this in her TedxSF talk “How to Stop Screwing Yourself Over”.
  3. Trust what you know. You are far more powerful and capable than you give yourself credit for. Trust that the ideas, situations, and opportunities that present themselves have come at the right time, and you’re equipped to handle them – no matter how uncomfortable you feel.
  4. Make it a habit to step out of your comfort zone. Being uncomfortable can become comfortable. I know this sounds crazy, but the exhilarating feeling of being completely terrified and excited all at the same time, can be a really fun place to be. I know if I don’t feel this buzz that I’m sitting in my comfort zone and there is nothing magical that’s going to happen there. The magic is sitting on the edge of your comfort zone as you continue to stretch it. Check out my 7-Day Comfort Zone Challenge; it’s free and will get you started.
  5. Be willing to make mistakes. Mistakes come with success. With every mistake comes information that you can use. This is always a good thing.
  6. Commit to take action on the 20% of activity that will create 80% of your results, even if you don’t feel like it.

Don’t wait for success to find you. Go out, get uncomfortable, act even when you don’t feel like it and bring success to you!

You got this!
