The “One Thing” That Everything Depends on In Your Business

Other Cool Stuff

This “One Thing”

This “One Thing” is the foundation for your business.  It’s the thing that everything else grows from.  It’s also the “One Thing” that I see people avoid the most.  Can you guess what it is?

Yep! See the people, see the people, and see the people.  Then pick up the phone and call the people, call the people, and call the people.

This one step seems to be so hard for so many building a business.  I feel your pain.  It’s not easy putting yourself out there and talking to people about what you do.  It’s much easier to try to attract people through social media, emails, texting, etc.  The only problem with this, is that it takes a lot of time to develop the relationships and nurture people in this way.  It also takes a lot of time to get them to begin to trust you enough to want to work with you.

The 7-Day Comfort Zone Challenge

I also know, that picking up the phone and having a conversation is on the edge of your comfort zone.  If you’re thinking right now Lauri, picking up the phone is just too far out of my comfort zone, then I have developed a free 7-Day Comfort Zone Challenge for you.  You will receive seven days of videos with a daily challenge, that will gently help you move out to the edge of your comfort zone. The edge is an exciting place to be – it’s the place where fear and excitement come together to create magic.

If you are building or starting a business, the quickest and best way to get money coming in, is to actually go out and meet your future new clients and customers.

Pick up the phone and follow-up with them. Schedule appointments to talk.  This way is much faster.  It’s much easier to build a relationship, to find out what your future new clients and customers want, what their challenges are, and how you can help be a solution for them.

Yes, I know … I hear you, “But Lauri I hate picking up the phone.  I don’t want to bother people or be pushy”.  I understand completely, and I felt that way too.

But, the truth is, you can’t avoid it if you want to build a successful business.

The “One Thing” Will Grow Your Business Fast

It’s the “One Thing”, if  done on a consistent basis, that will grow your business faster than anything else.  It’s your foundation.  Without customers and clients, you don’t have a business.

I know picking up the phone is a huge ask.  But think about it this way – it’s just a simple conversation with someone, to learn a little more about them to see if You and What You Do may be a good fit for them.

Also, as you may have heard me say before, “Ditch the Scripts.”  Scripts don’t work.  They are part of the reason picking up the phone is so hard for us. They make you feel awkward, they sound obligatory, and people know you’re using a script.

Here are a couple of tips to help make picking up the phone a little easier:

  1. Get out of you and into them.  You may have a tendency to start thinking about “what are they going to think of me, I don’t want to bother them, they don’t want to talk to me,” etc. This is all about you. Get into them and how you can be of service to them.  You never know; they may be looking for exactly what you have to offer.
  2. Directly communicate what you are calling them about. Don’t beat around the bush.   Be honest, and tell them why you are contacting them.  You’ll be surprised how much people appreciate this.  They don’t want to have to try to figure out what you really want.
  3. Tell them what’s in it for them.  People want to know how something is going to benefit them before they really start listening to you.  Make sure you customize your call to what will be important to them.  If you don’t really know what’s important to them, ask them.
  4. Let them know what you want them to do. Communicate to the person you are talking to what you want them to do next.  Once you’ve told them why you are calling, what’s in it for them – the benefit, then tell them what you would like them to do. Ex: call you back, set up a time to talk, meet for coffee etc.
  5. Use your own words. I teach my “Dial for Success” group to use certain phrases and put their own words around it.  It will be much easier for you if you just are sincere and you use your own words.  People feel the sincerity. No one really cares if you say it perfectly.

Picking up the phone and having a conversation is a skill and can be mastered! I believe and know if you take the time to master this skill, you can create Freedom in your life!

If this is a skill you really want to master, I invite you to check out my “Dial For Success” program, and see if it’s a fit for you.  It’s a wonderful community of people who are mastering the skill of picking up the phone and having a conversation every month☺.
