The fastest way to add new clients.
You know the fastest way to add new clients, customers, and team members to your business is to pick up the phone and follow-up but for some reason this always falls to the bottom of your to do list. Why is that?
You may be setting aside time in your calendar to make your follow-up calls but it’s the one appointment that always seems to have to move because something has come up.
Or …
You are very intentional about sitting down and picking up the phone but something crazy happens, and you find yourself in the kitchen doing dishes or laundry instead.
How did that happen?
Resistance. When you know you want or need to do something but you find yourself either avoiding what you want to do or having to power through it to get it done.
There are usually two main reasons for resistance.
- There is a skill that needs to be developed or ..,
- There is a subconscious pattern at work that is trying to protect you but no longer serving you
So when you find yourself avoiding picking up the phone, ask yourself:
- Have I developed skill in this area?
- Do I know what to say when I pick up that phone?
- Do I know how to have a simple conversation with someone about working with me that feels comfortable and genuine?
- Do I know how to ask for the next step?
If the answer to any of these questions is a no then your resistance is caused by not having developed the skill of picking up the phone and having a simple conversation with someone about working with you.
So, the easy fix is to:
- Develop that skill of having a person-to-person conversation with someone.
- Put yourself into an environment that will support you around getting better at picking up the phone and talking to your future clients and customers.
If this is you and you have some skill to develop, then I have a resource for you.
I am teaching a free webinar on October 26th called “How to Have One Simple Conversation that Leads to More Clients, Customers, and Cash”.
You’ll learn my favorite three steps in having this conversation plus a bonus 4th.

Now, if you have the skill, it’s not a problem to get on the phone and talk to someone in a comfortable genuine way and ask for the next step then you probably have a subconscious pattern running.
When you have a pattern running the most important thing to do is recognize it. So, here are three steps I walk my clients through that you can do, too.
First, when you get into resistance and avoid picking up the phone you take yourself out of your game. Notice when this happens.
Next, you want to pay attention and think back at past experiences what do you do when the resistance comes up and you take yourself out of the game?
- Do you avoid getting on the phone and find yourself doing something else that just has to be done first?
- Do you go into, “if I just get this organized first then I’ll make my calls”?
- Do you immediately get tired and need to lie down (this is mine)?
- Do you get mad at someone or something so you can have an excuse not to get on the phone? You just can’t call in this mood …
- Do you give up and make excuses that you didn’t really want to do this anyway?
- Do you settle for less than you know you’re capable of?
- Do you hide?
- Do you set yourself up with an unwinnable goal? Such as “I’m going to make 50 calls …(Mine too.)
- We all have a different way we take ourselves out – What is your pattern? BE HONEST with yourself here. You don’t have to tell anyone.
Finally, once you recognize the pattern you can then make it your ALLY.
- This is your heads up – you’ve hit a pattern that just isn’t serving you anymore.
- Then you can start to make a better choice and to move forward!
